Sizing
Hi,
I tried on the Simond Klimb V2 and found that size 40 was slightly uncomfortable but was wearable, whereas size 39 was painful and not comfortable. My foot shape is Greek fit.
Based on this, do you think the Black Diamond Method climbing shoe in size 39.5 would be a suitable fit for me?
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hey Park,
You are essentially asking: based on how the Simond Klimb V2 fitted you, will the Black Diamond Method in size 39.5 sit in the “usable but not painful” range? Here is the clear, practical answer.
1) SHORT SUMMARY
- Yes, EU 39.5 in the Black Diamond Method is very likely the right size to try.
- Plus: the Method is slightly softer and more forgiving than the Simond Klimb V2.
- Plus: 39.5 sits exactly between the two Simond sizes you tested, which matches your experience.
- Minus: the Method is more asymmetric, so toe pressure is more direct.
Direction: this suits your use if you want a performance‑oriented but still wearable shoe; the doubt only appears if you want zero toe pressure.
2) DEEPER EXPLANATION (for context)
What your Simond test actually tells us.
If I reduce this to the essentials, your feedback is very consistent:
- EU 39 = painful → genuinely too small, not just “tight”.
- EU 40 = slightly uncomfortable but wearable → correct performance zone, just at the upper edge.
That places your realistic climbing size between EU 39 and 40, not at either end.
Why the Black Diamond Method in 39.5 makes sense
The Method uses a moderately downturned, performance‑oriented last, but it is built with:
- a softer midsole
- a more adaptive rubber tension system
- and a more compliant upper than the Klimb V2
In practice, that allows the shoe to wrap the toes rather than fight them. With a Greek foot shape (second toe longest), this matters: the half size lets pressure stay forward, not pushed back into the toe joints.
Compared directly:
- Method 39.5 will feel clearly more forgiving than Simond 39
- and more precise than Simond 40, without crossing into outright pain
Where the uncertainty still lies
The Method is designed to deliver precision, so it loads the toes more directly than the Klimb V2. If your goal is all‑day gym comfort, it may still feel intense at first. If your goal is sport routes, steeper climbing or edging with manageable discomfort, 39.5 is the correct choice.
What to expect in real use
- First sessions: snug, engaged toes, firm but not sharp pain
- After break‑in: rubber relaxes slightly; fit becomes precise rather than restrictive
- If the heel was stable for you in Simond 40, it should remain stable in Method 39.5
Bottom line
Based on how you experienced the Simond Klimb V2, the Black Diamond Method in EU 39.5 is the most consistent and logical sizing choice. It aligns with your foot shape, your sizing threshold, and the Method’s construction.
Greetz,
Remy
